Emeryville, California-based Grocery Outlet continues its East Coast expansion with the opening of a new store in Maryland earlier this month. The new store is located at 801 East Pulaski Highway in Elkton and brings nearly 30 new jobs to the northeastern Maryland community.

“We are so thrilled to be a part of the Elkton community and provide big savings on quality groceries,” said independent operator Scott Hines, in a statement. “This partnership with Grocery Outlet gives me the ability to grow my business, create new jobs and more importantly, give back to the local community.”

As part of Grocery Outlet’s community outreach, Hines donated $1,000 to Youth Empowerment Source (YES), whose mission is to provide critical supports to children, youth and families in Cecil County, Maryland, and to Upper Bay Counseling & Support Services, Inc. Hines also donated $2,500 to Elkton Vet Center to support veterans, service members and their families.

Grocery Outlet, which reported strong traffic trends for the third quarter, will also open a new location in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, at 1301 Quentin Rd. on Dec. 8.

“We are so thrilled to be a part of the Lebanon community and provide big savings on quality groceries,” said independent operators Bob and Kimberlie Jackson, in a statement. “This partnership with Grocery Outlet gives us the ability to grow our business, create new jobs and more importantly, give back to the local community.”

Offering the same brands as traditional grocery stores but at lower prices, Grocery Outlet’s buyers “scour the country to find the top manufacturers with excess inventory and seasonal closeouts so Grocery Outlet can offer ‘wow savings’ on thousands of name-brand products," the company said in a statement.

The extreme-value grocery retailer operates over 430 locations in California, Idaho, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington and Maryland. Grocery Outlet stores are owned by independent operators based in the communities they serve.
