Hy-Vee Continues Pharmacy Takeover With Weber & Judd Acquisition

Hy-Vee Inc. has acquired all 10 Weber & Judd pharmacies in Minnesota as it continues to expand its healthcare presence across the Midwest. 

The retailer took over 22 Shopko pharmacies in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin in December, and it acquired six more locations earlier this month. 

Following the initial Shopko takeover in which patient files were merged into nearby existing Hy-Vee Pharmacy locations, the recently acquired Shopkos will be rebranded as Hy-Vee Pharmacy and many of the Weber & Judds will reopen as Hy-Vee HealthMarket Rx. The Weber & Judd pharmacy inside the Hy-Vee Barlow Plaza location will be rebranded as a Hy-Vee Pharmacy. 

Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s chairman, CEO and president, called Weber & Judd, which was established in 1862, "an exemplary provider of pharmacy care," adding that Hy-Vee is "grateful for the opportunity to continue to provide this same personalized care for the Weber & Judd family of patients and communities.”

Hy-Vee Director of Public Relations Christina Gayman told the Minnesota Post Bulletin that  about 70 employees work at the Weber & Judd stores, but the retailer anticipates that "almost all, if not all, employees will remain on staff."
