The Kroger Co. is celebrating Women's History Month with a collection of uplifting stories featuring women involved in the company and the communities it serves.

More than half of Kroger's workforce is women, and the retailer will honor them with a new feature story on its Krogerstories.com site every Monday in March.

Stuart Aitken, executive sponsor of Women's EDGE and SVP of alternative business, said the retailer works to invest in women's success and advancement, employing more than 250,000 women and partnering with more than 500 women-owned businesses in the U.S. The retailer also sources products that are fair-trade certified in support of women-owned cooperatives and businesses internationally.

Kroger also recently visited the fair-trade certified Sorwathe Tea Estate in Rwanda for Women's History Month to meet the women behind a variety of its Simple Truth Organic teas.

"Kroger believes in supporting women in our business and where we do business," Aitken said.
