Retailer-owned grocery co-op Allegiance Retail Services’ newest New York-area Foodtown is now open in the Boerum Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Foodtown of Atlantic Avenue, the new 4,500-square-foot supermarket which opened its doors on Saturday, is located at 457 Atlantic Avenue and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The store is owned and operated by the Elayyan family, who now have nine supermarkets, seven of which are in Brooklyn, New York, according to a company press release.

"Foodtown will differentiate itself from big box stores in the area,” said Foodtown of Atlantic Avenue Store Owner Munzer Elayyan in a statement.

The new store features grocery essentials in various departments, including a focus on organic and natural foods throughout the store. The store also features expanded retail foodservice offerings.

“We look forward to the Elayyan family’s success in bringing the Foodtown banner to Boerum Hill,” said Joseph Fantozzi, COO and president of Allegiance Retail Services, in a statement. “They are the epitome of the newer generation of grocers, meeting shoppers where they are at and delivering quality products at price points that meet family’s budgets.”

Last month, the grocery co-op held a grand opening for its 11,500-square-foot store located at 32-14 31st Street in Astoria, Queens. The ground-up build replaces a former Rite Aid store and features grocery essentials in various departments, including produce, meat and seafood, as well as expanded retail foodservice offerings.

Allegiance Retail Services Inc. is the marketing and merchandising cooperative for New York-area supermarkets such as Foodtown, Green Way Markets, Morton Williams, D’Agostino and Gristedes.
