Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets’ store count is now in the double digits.

The Illinois-based grocery retailer opened its newest location in the Chicago area on Wednesday, and shoppers were out in full force to check out Caputo's latest location.

“This is our 10th location,” CEO Robertino Presta told WGB at the grand opening of the 40,000-square -foot store at the northwest corner of Montrose Avenue and Harlem Avenue in the village of Norridge, an enclave of the city of Chicago.

“The new store is all state-of-the art, including a CO2 refrigerant system,” Presta said.

The new store features groceries in all departments, along with Caputo’s signature imports, from-scratch bakery items and an indoor seating area for shoppers. The store also features a wide selection of foodservice items such as hot foods like pizza and soups, as well as sushi and sandwiches. Inside the grocery store is a Cafe Angelo that sells coffee and gelato, a nod to the grocery retailer's founder.

Fully owned and operated by the Angelo Caputo family since 1958, the independent grocery retailer now employs the third generation of its founder, Angelo Caputo.

The new Norridge location features an eye-catching exterior by Peter Theodore, architect-designer at Camburas and Theodore Architects, that is meant to resemble the rolling hillsides of Italy and also to blend the past, present and future generations, Presta told WGB.

Presta credits the company’s growth during these inflationary times back to its shoppers and the differentiated assortment they have come to expect from Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets.

“There is definitely a call for our brand,” Presta said. “We are more international and not just your cookie-cutter grocery store. We are local and that I think goes a long way too.”

In May, Caputo’s opened a new store in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, a Chicago suburb.
