Sendik's Food Markets will open its 18th location, in the Milwaukee suburb of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, transforming the former K-Mart into a 60,000-square-foot grocery store that not only features grocery essentials but an in-store garden, the grocer said Thursday.

“Oconomowoc is a beautiful and growing area. We are very excited to join this community and look forward to serving its citizens,” said Sendik’s Co-Owner Ted Balistreri, in a statement. “We are proud to bring true food innovation to the area and offer new food experiences to customers.”

The store will feature one of the area’s largest meat and seafood, gourmet cheese, and wine and spirits departments, and the in-store garden will provide fresh leafy greens for the store’s salad bar, the grocer said. The store will also feature grocery essentials, as well as homemade products.

The new Sendik’s Food Market is part of the Olympia Fields development, and will employ 150 people. Co-tenants of the new location will include Planet Fitness and Pet Supplies Plus, Sendik’s said in a statement.

The grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony will include sweepstakes, live music, Halloween festivities, Disney princesses, humane society adoptions and more, the grocer said.

Sendik's Food Market is owned by the Balistreri family and has been serving the greater Milwaukee community since 1926.
