Publix Super Markets on Wednesday opened its newest Georgia location at Eagles Corner Shopping Center in Statesboro.

The 48,387-square-foot supermarket at 101 Tormenta Way is part of Publix's expansion plans, which has seen no signs of slowing as the grocer announced on Tuesday it has acquired property for a fourth store in Kentucky.

“We are excited to bring Publix to Statesboro,” said Hannah Herring, Publix media relations manager. “We look forward to providing premier service and quality products to new and existing customers who can now enjoy having their Publix closer to home.”

The Statesboro store features a scratch bakery that includes wedding cakes and desserts made by in-store decorators, as well as breads and rolls baked daily. The Publix store offers departments for grocery, dairy, frozen food, seafood, meat and produce, as well as a pharmacy, the grocer said.

The new Publix will also offer contactless pay options, grocery delivery via Instacart and pharmacy delivery.

Last month, Publix Food Markets opened four new stores, as it continues its expansion plans.

Publix is one of the country's largest employee-owned grocers, with more than 240,000 associates on its payroll. The Lakeland, Florida-based grocery retailer operates 1,320 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
