Raley’s has taken a step forward in its campaign to raise awareness of sugar content throughout its stores. The West Sacramento, Calif.-based grocer has announced a refresh to its pasta sauce aisle that includes new educational signage and enhanced product tags highlighting pasta sauces that have less than 5% or more than 25% of total calories coming from added sugar.

In the pasta sauce category, about two-thirds of the “Better for You” brands offered by Raley’s have 5% or less calories coming from added sugar. In addition, more than 50 products will receive a special shelf guide tag for “No Added Sugar.”

“Raley’s is helping customers navigate their personal health journeys by continuing to increase transparency around added sugar in different categories throughout our stores,” Yvette Waters, Raley’s nutrition strategist and brand influencer, said in a statement. “We know these types of changes to the aisles can help customers make more informed decisions at the shelves and influence purchase choices.”

Last year, Raley’s launched its sugar awareness campaign by changing the layout and promotion of cold cereal. Given positive results, Raley’s has announced plans to expand its sugar awareness campaign to other categories in the near future.

Customers committed to avoiding sugar altogether are invited to use Raley’s recently relaunched label transparency tool, Raley’s Shelf Guide. The “No Sugar Added” icon—one of 23 icons that can be found on store tags and online—allows customers to identify products completely free of any added sugar when shopping in-store and online.

Raley’s has also created educational content for customers interested in learning more about added sugar and its effects on personal wellness at Raleys.com/addedsugar and on its social media channels.
