Recently appointed Shipt CEO and Target Corp. veteran Kelly Caruso provided insight into future plans for the company and revealed what it was like to complete an order while acting as a Shipt Shopper in an interview released by the company.

Target’s home delivery service has now grown to more than 250 markets. And Caruso shared that these investments in expansion have paid off this year, pointing to last week’s addition of Petco to its marketplace. Future focuses will be alcohol and prescription delivery, she said.

Following her shift as a Shipt Shopper, Caruso called those in the profession “the real deal,” praising them for their people-centric mindset that “inspires them to create a positive, personalized experience for each member, every time they shop.” Examples of this, she said, include texting with customers during the shop and delivering a cheerful demeanor.

Shipt Shoppers have “shopping down to a science,” Caruso said, explaining that they are trained to move through the store so that they will hit the dairy and perishables last while double-checking customers’ notes on produce to ensure they are picking the exact ripeness the customers is looking for.

“I also learned that it’s important to wear comfortable shoes during a shop—I was zipping around the entire store,” she said.
