ShopRite held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sunday at its new, 65,000-square-foot, “state-of-the-art” supermarket in Huntington, New York, the Wakefern Food Corp. banner announced Monday.
Located in the Huntington Commons shopping center at 839 New York Ave., the store is owned and operated by the Greenfield family, third- and fourth- generation grocers who own five other ShopRites on Long Island.
“We are proud to open our latest ShopRite store in Huntington and excited to bring ShopRite value and quality foods and products to the community,” said Seth Greenfield, co-president of Greenfield’s ShopRite, who operates the family’s ShopRite stores with his father, Jon, in a statement. “Long Island is home to our longtime family business, and we are grateful for the continued support from the community.”
The new ShopRite features grocery essentials, a prepared-foods department, and a wide selection of organic, gluten-free and local products. The store also includes a floral, seafood and meat department with staffed butchers. The new location, which will include close to 250 full- and part-time associates, includes a kosher bakery under the supervision of KOF-K Kosher Certification and an in-store Nuts Factory, the grocer said in a statement.
Looking to reduce its eco-footprint, ShopRite incorporated energy-efficient refrigeration and LED lighting throughout. Shoppers will also find wider aisles in this new ShopRite location, the grocer said.
In October, Wakefern Food Corp. reported record retail sales for the fiscal year, which ended Oct. 1. The Keasbey, New Jersey-based company announced $18.6 billion in retail sales—a 4.69% increase over the previous year.
Wakefern Food Corp., the country’s largest retailer-owned cooperative, includes ShopRite supermarkets in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland, serving millions of customers each week.
