Stop & Shop to Offer No-Cost EV Charging

Furthering its commitment to sustainable retailing, Stop & Shop has partnered with Volta Industries Inc. on the installation of five electric-vehicle (EV) charging stations at its stores across the Northeast. An additional 50 Volta charging stations will be installed across the Quincy, Mass.-based supermarket’s five-state footprint by the end of the year.

At every launched store, customers will have access to two EV charging stations, where they can charge their vehicles at no cost. On average, a Volta charging station, which feature high-resolution, two-sided digital displays, can deliver up to 30 miles of range per hour.

Volta charging stations can currently be found outside Stop & Shop stores in East Brunswick and Morris Plains, N.J.; Walpole, Mass.; Willimantic, Conn.; and Pawtucket, R.I.

The partnership with Volta is just one of the ways Stop & Shop, an Ahold Delhaize USA company, is demonstrating its commitment to cleaner transportation and energy. Through its Restore program, every time a vehicle tank is filled at a Stop & Shop Fuel station, Restore plants a tree to offset emissions. Since the start of the program, more than 130,000 metric tons of carbon and over 255 million gallons of fuel have been offset and more than 59,200 new trees have been planted, the retailer said in a release.
