Ahold Delhaize this week recognized its U.S. banner The Giant Co. as the Pennsylvania-based grocer celebrates its 100th anniversary.
What began in October 1923 as a two-man butcher shop is now a family of brands that includes Giant, Martin’s, Giant Heirloom Market, Giant Direct and Martin’s Direct.
As a token of appreciation to its shoppers, The Giant Co. has been offering select anniversary deals.
“Since 1923, we’ve been committed to providing our customers savings, quality and selection—it’s who The Giant Co. is,” said Joanna Crishock, vice president of marketing and commercial planning for The Giant Co., in a statement. “This milestone wouldn’t be possible without our customers, so what better way to mark our 100th anniversary than by offering them amazing deals and rewards as a thank you. With unexpected prices and some deals featuring savings of up to 50%, it’s a great time to stock up and save on favorite items.”
To recognize this milestone, The Giant Co. also will celebrate with a variety of initiatives for its employees.
According to a press release, the company’s more than 35,000 team members will be celebrated throughout the anniversary season, with special team member-only discounts, events, in-store celebrations, a limited-edition t-shirt, and be highlighted for their contributions to The Giant Co. through various storytelling opportunities.
This past summer, The Giant Co. appointed John Ruane as its president. The grocery veteran had served in an interim role for almost a year following the departure of Nicholas Bertram., who now serves as COO of Flashfood, the digital marketplace that offers shoppers the opportunity to buy food that is heavily discounted and nearing its best-by date.
