The Giant Co. is pushing its presence even further in the Philadelphia area.

The Carlisle, Pennsylvania-based grocery retailer announced on Monday plans for its first store in Jenkintown, which is located 10 miles north of Philadelphia and is in Montgomery County. The new store will bring over 100 jobs to the area.

The Giant Co. now operates 21 stores in Montgomery County and employs nearly 3,900 team members.

The ground-up build, which is about 50,000 square feet, is located the corner of Old York Road and Wyncote Road as part of a proposed redevelopment project.

“With a decades-long history of serving Montgomery County, we are excited to bring Giant to Jenkintown,” said John Ruane, interim president of The Giant Co., in a statement. “The Giant Co. is looking forward to serving the families of Jenkintown by offering a simplified shopping experience, inspiring fresh ideas and creating a healthier community, true to our purpose of connecting families for a better future.”

Construction on the new store in Jenkintown is scheduled to begin once municipal entitlements and permits are available. Specific store amenities, as well as opening date, will be shared at a later date.

In December the Ahold Delhaize USA banner opened its first store in Benner Township, Pennsylvania.

The new, ground-up, 50,000-square-foot store is located at 2699 Benner Pike in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, and employs more than 100 associates.

Founded in 1923, The Giant Co. family of brands includes Giant, Martin’s, Giant Heirloom Market, Giant Direct and Martin’s Direct.
