Select corporate stores owned by Associated Food Stores will sell “ugly” produce at a discount, the retailer announced.
The “Misfit” produce program, a collaboration with Robinson Fresh, will feature seasonal fruit and vegetables year-round.
Participating Utah stores include Fresh Market in Park City and South Ogden, Dan’s in Foothill and Olympus, and Macey’s in Provo.
“The Misfit produce area will be a treasure hunt for guests. This week we have six Misfit produce items all at an incredible price — red and green bell peppers, yellow squash, zucchini, mandarins and navel oranges. Next week we’ll be adding avocados and limes into the mix,” Leigh Vaughn, senior produce category manager, said in a statement.
Raley’s began selling ugly produce as part of a 10-store test in July. Earlier this year, Loblaw announced a similar program at select Real Canadian Superstore, no frills and Maxi locations.
