MountainKing Butter Russets Expected to Spark Sales
January 1, 2018
MountainKing has introduced Butter Russets, the company’s newest potato variety with a natural, buttery taste designed to appeal to the growing wave of consumers seeking better-tasting produce. Available in five-pound bags, MountainKing’s all-new Butter Russets look like a traditional russet potato with a slightly lighter, tan skin and golden flesh, say company officials. Developed in Europe, company officials add that Butter Russets offer a smoother, moister and richer taste ideal for baking, mashing and frying, particularly during the holidays when kitchens are busy whipping up great-tasting dishes. “Across the board, shoppers are looking for better-tasting produce – and that includes potatoes,” says John Pope, vice president of sales & marketing for MountainKing, the only company to offer the Butter Russets. “Our initial roll out has been very successful with several chains reporting an uptick in category sales.” MountainKing’s marketing support of the Butter Russet launch includes special introductory pricing, social media coupons, point of sale and high-graphic display units. The company also is in conversation with several retailers regarding exclusivity deals, Pope adds. “We’re certainly open to geographic exclusivities with retail partners,” he says. “Since we have a limited supply, we’ll have to be selective to make sure we have the best fit.” Like all MountainKing varieties, the Butter Russets are naturally fat free, cholesterol free and contain no sodium, are low in calories and fiber-rich, providing between 5 and 16 grams of fiber per one-cup serving, company officials add.
