Joining the company’s Simply Smart line is two varieties of carved chicken breast strips—Lemon & Herb and Olive Oil & Rosemary. Made from chicken raised with no antibiotics and fed a vegetarian diet, the brand is part of a category expansion targeted to meet consumer demand for antibiotic-free chicken and convenience. “Last fall, we switched the entire Perdue Simply Smart line to use only chicken raised with no antibiotics ever,” says Eric Christianson, senior vice president of marketing for Salisbury, Md.-based Perdue Foods. “No antibiotics ever followed the Perdue Simply Smart philosophy, and we’re happy to bring that same consumer choice to fresh tray-pack and ground chicken, and to fully cooked, carved chicken breast strips.” The chicken is sold in 9-ounce resealable bags with a suggested retail price of $4.99.
