Produce for Kids’ inaugural e-cookbook, Festive Flavors: 12 Fresh Takes on Holiday Favorites, was introduced in Nov. 2014 and exceeded projected downloads by 23% through the extent of the promotion. The e-cookbook, which contains 12 holiday dishes, snack ideas and meal planning tips to help families eat healthier during the holidays, was able to feature produce items as the main ingredients. Produce for Kids partnered with select nationally known bloggers to recreate recipes from the e-cookbook and develop their own healthy holiday favorites. The bloggers were able to feature these recipes on their own blogs and with their social network of a combined 365,000 followers. In addition, Produce for Kids hosted two Twitter parties in partnership with Crunch Pak, Melissa’s Produce, Naturipe and Stemilt. “Our research shows consumers are more willing to subtly change their eating habits by swapping for healthier ingredients in recipes they already know and love instead of trying a completely new recipe. In Festive Flavors, we took 12 holiday favorites and made them healthier using fresh fruits and vegetables,” said Trish James, vice president, Produce for Kids. “We saw a wonderful response from families who were able to easily incorporate these recipes into their meal plans for the holidays. Results of the e-cookbook promotion exceeded our expectations and we plan to introduce more e-cookbooks in 2015.” The holidays are a crucial time for the sale of fresh produce and can make or break sales for the year. All of the recipes featured in Festive Flavors highlight fresh produce as main ingredients in an effort to help increase families’ consumption during this timeframe.
