Armed with a mission to provide clean-label, wholesome offerings, Sweet Street Desserts has committed to eliminating GMOs from its product portfolio.

The gourmet desserts manufacturer, based in Reading, Pa., said it has removed GMOs from virtually all of its offerings, with the exception of products that feature branded candy and cookie ingredients from other manufacturers. Some of its new clean-label products include the Farmer’s Market Blueberry Oat Pullman, which is made with fresh blueberries, yogurt and rolled oats and is free from GMOs, artificial colors and artificial ingredients.

As consumers continue to pay closer attention to the ingredients in the foods they eat, food companies are increasingly enhancing their ingredients labels to appeal to consumer demand for transparency. Sweet Street began to update its products’ ingredients lists more than 10 years ago when it noticed hidden preservatives and additives in many of the ingredients it sourced.

The company has since enhanced the ingredients lists of more than 300 desserts, featuring more than 500 ingredients. In 2016, Sweet Street introduced its Manifesto line of non-GMO and additive-free cookies and bars, made with all-butter dough, pure can sugar and only cage-free eggs. The clean-label product line earned the company two Food and Beverage Innovation Awards for its Manifesto Cookies and Manifesto IW Bars and Cookies.

Sweet Street offers more than 400 gourmet desserts from big cakes, brulee’d cheesecakes and macarons to dessert bars, loaves and its famous Sandy’s cookies.
