DIRECTOR OF CONSUMER AND RETAIL HEALTHCARE SOLUTIONS JOHNSON & JOHNSON CONSUMER INC.
What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job begins with the fact that I work for J&J. I have been able to leverage my nontraditional background (healthcare experience and CPG experience) to understand the implications of what is happening in healthcare and what that means to all of us as the world unfolds before us. I am very proud to have been invited to offer my point of view on what has become known as the “consumerism of healthcare” in many different environments, including internally at J&J, through to hospitals and health systems and most importantly, to our area of the industry where healthcare is meeting retail. Being able to work with so many great companies and leaders has been an honor.
What inspires your leadership approach?
My leadership approach has been strongly rooted in the J&J credo. The very first line of the Johnson & Johnson credo states: “We believe our first responsibility is to the patients, doctors and nurses, to mothers and fathers and all others who use our products and services.” Using this as my guide has allowed me to think through the eyes of the patient/consumer and also through the eyes of our customer. Being free to take this perspective has allowed me to rise above specific businesses to create broad-based solutions that will help drive a better experience/outcome first. If we all take care of our customer/patient first, the rest will follow.
What do you cherish most about being a part of the industry?
I didn’t start in this industry directly. My career began in healthcare 25 years ago when, after graduate school at Hopkins, I worked as a healthcare provider supporting cardiac surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. ... I eventually went back for my MBA and entered the world of CPG in health & beauty care. Fast forward to the present, and I have been blessed for the past six years bringing my healthcare experience together with my CPG experience to challenge the status quo and get people to look at the world through a different lens. I have cherished this role above and beyond any in my career because this is the one place that, if done well, I can play a role in serving multiple stakeholders, culminating with our having a significant impact on the health and well-being of thousands, if not millions, of people through our work together.
