As part of Sobeys’ partnership with Jamie Oliver, the retailer plans to promote the chef’s Food Revolution Day with a potluck challenge.
For Canada’s Biggest Potluck Party from April 28-May 16, Sobeys will ask customers to host a potluck and post pictures to social media with the hashtag #PotluckChallenge. The retailer will donate $1 per post to the Cooking Toward Independence Project, which teaches cooking skills and provides access to healthy foods to teens leaving Canada’s child welfare system.

Sobeys will share information about Food Revolution Day, as well as potluck tips and fan photo submissions, on its website, www.BetterFoodForAll.com.
“Sobeys is on a mission to help Canadians eat better and feel better and we know cooking skills are an important element of that. It’s why we’ve partnered with Jamie Oliver who is so passionate about sharing his food knowledge and inspiring people of all ages to get cooking,” Doug Brummer, SVP, marketing, said in a press release.
Through April 28, Sobeys customers can take a quiz on www.BetterFoodForAll.com to test their kitchen skills and compare cooking habits.
In February, Sobeys conducted a survey about cooking at home that found only 31% of 18- to 29-year-olds feels confident in the kitchen, compared to 48% of those aged 50 and older. In addition, just 18% of respondents said they prepare at least one meal per day from scratch or with basic ingredients.
“Food Revolution Day is all about cooking from scratch and sharing cooking skills and food knowledge. Sobeys’ research proves it — not enough Canadians have cooking skills to pass down. I’m excited to be working together to change that,” said Jamie Oliver.
