SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- Bay Area Foods here said it has completed the sale of Market Wholesale Foods to United Grocers, Portland, Ore. The financial terms were not disclosed. Under the agreement, Market Wholesale will continue to supply Bay Area Foods' 13 Petrini's and 10 New Deal stores. Market Wholesale, with annual volume of about $300 million, serves more than 1,200 independent grocers in northern California and Nevada from three distribution centers. The wholesaler, along with the retail stores, was sold to Bay Area a year ago by Provigo, Montreal. Mark S. Sellers, president and chief executive officer of Bay Area Foods, said the sale of the wholesale subsidiary will help Bay Area Foods "continue its efforts to provide our customers at Petrini's and New Deal Markets with the best one-stop shopping experience."
