EDINA, Minn. -- Byerly's here, which launched home shopping and delivery services this month, will expand the program's scope next month when it begins distributing software on diskette.

Dale Riley, president and chief operating officer, told SN the first week's orders exceeded sales projections, but declined to provide specifics. He did say, however, that computer-generated orders accounted for 40% of all orders received one day.

Home shopping orders are processed by Shopping Alternatives, Bethesda, Md. Byerly's staff performs the product selection while a third-party local carrier provides delivery service.

Byerly's introduced its Web page in November and already has redesigned the format to include more sophisticated graphics.
