SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Grocers Association here said Steven A. Burd, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Safeway, Pleasanton, Calif., will be the keynote speaker on opening day of its 100th annual convention next fall.

eral session will include a talk by Neil Stern, partner in McMillan/Doolittle, Chicago, on best practices from leading-edge supermarkets, and the speaker at the convention's closing session will be Herman Cain, chairman of Godfather's Pizza and president and chief executive officer of the National Restaurant Association, giving an inspirational talk entitled, "Success Is a Journey."

According to Peter J. Larkin, CGA president, the convention will also feature workshops on such topics as loyalty marketing, category management, specialty foods, meal solutions, Efficient Consumer Response, loss prevention and human resources.

CGA said the annual exposition is scheduled to feature products and services from over 300 supplier companies.
