SANI ST. LOUIS -- One hundred supermarket chains participated in the third annual baby photo contest cosponsored by Beech-Nut here.

Vons, Publix and Dominicks's are among the retailers that ran the event, also sponsored by Panasonic, said Laura Gotsch, product manager at Beech-Nut.

The promotion ran from May through last month. Consumers picked up entry forms from stores' baby food sections and attached their baby's photo, along with six Beech-Nut Universal Product Code symbols. Entries were judged on creativity and expression.

Five first-place winners, selected from five different regions of the country, will be notified by mail this month. First-place prize is a Panasonic VHS Palmcorder IQ/Camcorder with color viewfinder -- an $800 value. Second prize is a six-month supply of Beech-Nut food, worth $200.
