D’Agostino Supermarkets Help Feed Homebound Elderly This Winter

Throughout February 2013, shoppers at D’Agostino Supermarkets, the New York based supermarket chain, are being asked to donate their spare change to help feed the city’s homebound elderly as part of the initiative known as “Round-Up for Citymeals-on-Wheels.” D’Agostino Supermarkets was the first Round-Up partner in 1989. As part of the fundraising effort, staff at D’Agostino locations throughout New York City will ask customers to round up to next dollar or donate an amount of their choice to support Citymeals, a not-for-profit organization that raises private funds to prepare and deliver weekend, holiday and emergency meals to the homebound elderly throughout the boroughs of New York City.  As part of the venture, D’Agostino Supermarkets will provide signage throughout each location and at the register. Beth Shapiro, executive director of Citymeals-on-Wheels, says, "Twenty-four years ago D’Agostino Supermarkets was our first Round-Up partner. Their steadfast commitment to feed New York City’s frail aged is inspiring.  For almost a quarter of a century, our older homebound neighbors, who are often alone and invisible, have been remembered by the D’Agostino team, for which we are so grateful." “It is an honor for D’Agostino Supermarkets to be able to help provide nourishment to those who may otherwise be without.  We are thrilled to continue our longstanding commitment to Citymeals-on-Wheels,” says Nick D'Agostino III, President and CEO of D'Agostino Supermarkets. Over the years, Citymeals has raised nearly $5 million through the program.  Since 1989, D’Agostino Supermarkets has raised roughly $2.2 million through “Round-Ups.”
