Dole Declares National Salad Day

One of the world’s largest salad providers is challenging food bloggers and salad lovers nationwide to take their passion for salad further than ever before in a month-long virtual salad party and recipe search commemorating National Salad Month in May 2013.

As part of an ongoing initiative to encourage salad enjoyment, experimentation and culinary exploration, DOLE Salads is declaring May 1 to be National Salad Day. In celebration, the salad provider is calling on salad, vegetable- and healthy-eating enthusiasts in the U.S. and Canada to submit their most inspired new salad recipes throughout the month. DOLE Salads is partnering with the popular recipe-aggregator site, Tastespotting, to rally the food-blogging community to create and submit unique salad recipes May 1-31, 2013. To kick-off the celebration, Tastespotting, among the world’s most widely read foodie and recipe websites, will post salad recipes and photos only on May 1 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET (12 p.m. to 5 p.m. PT). Tastespotting will accept recipes from bloggers and non-bloggers alike and will give special May 1 posting consideration to recipes that include a DOLE Salads blend or all-natural salad kit. In addition, in honor of the DOLE Salads Taste of Spain culinary and promotional initiative, consumers who submit a Spanish-themed recipe based on a DOLE Salads blend or kit through the end of May will be entered in a Tastespotting recipe contest and will be eligible to win the grand prize of a $500 La Tienda or Sur la Table giftcard and a month of free DOLE Salads. The Spanish-inspired recipes will also be featured on Dole’s social media pages throughout the summer, including the DOLE Salads Facebook page with close to 700,000 followers.
