MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. -- Lloyd's, a single-unit supercenter operator here, has added a new wrinkle when it comes to giving away birthday cakes.
e from its in-store bakery for any customers over 85.
A large line of type at the bottom of one of the retailer's recent ads said: "Free cookies for kids. Free birthday cakes (for customers over the age of 85)." Officials at Lloyd's could not be reached for comment, but a source in the store's bakery department told SN that the continuing offer was made for the first time last October.
The cake, which will be decorated with the person's name, is a double-layer, 8-inch round, the source said. The source emphasized that orders should be placed at least a day ahead of time and proof of the person's age is required.
