Stop & Shop Names Division VP

hop Cos. here has named Donald Sussman vice president and general manager of its Long Island/New Jersey division. This is a new position.

Sussman is responsible for merchandising and operations as well as management and profitability of the division. He reports to Robert G. Tobin, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Stop & Shop.

Sussman is a 16-year veteran of Pathmark Stores, Woodbridge, N.J. He most recently was senior vice president of grocery, dairy and frozen foods.

In a statement, Stop & Shop noted that Sussman's experience in the New York metro area would make him "a valuable asset" to its management team. Stop & Shop announced plans for an ambitious expansion into the New York market about one year ago.

The company has opened several stores on Long Island and in New Jersey. The chain is still waiting for its purchase of Melmarkets/Foodtown, Garden City, N.Y., to be finalized.

Stomel Taps Financial Chief

BERLIN, N.J. -- Jos. H. Stomel & Sons here said Leo J. Pound has been named chief financial officer, a new position.

Pound was most recently chief financial officer at Trifoods International, Pomfret Center, Conn., a food manufacturing business. At Stomel, Pound reports to President Steve Stomel.

Jos. H. Stomel is a cigarette and tobacco distributor that services convenience and drug stores as well as supermarkets. Its supermarket customers include Grand Union Co., Wayne, N.J., and A&P, Montvale, N.J.

Yates on Board At Food Bank

DALLAS -- Tom Thumb Food & Drugs here said Connie Yates, director of public relations, has been appointed to the board of North Texas Food Bank, also here.

She will serve on the food bank board for two years.
