Edwards Appoints Executive VPs

Steve Kaczynski was named executive vice president of sales and merchandising. He succeeds Robert Sherrick, who left the company.

Kaczynski is responsible for all areas of buying, merchandising, advertising, price management, marketing and sales development.

With Edwards since 1990, he most recently served as vice president of perishables merchandising.

Today, Frank Curci joins Edwards as executive vice president of administration, a new position.

He is responsible for real estate, construction, maintenance, risk management and support services.

Curci was most recently president and chief financial officer of Mayfair Super Markets, Elizabeth, N.J., which was purchased by Ahold USA and became part of Edwards earlier this year.

Both Kaczynski and Curci become members of Edwards executive committee. They report to Tony Schiano, president and chief executive officer of Edwards.

AG New England Adds Posts

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Associated Grocers of New England here named two employees department directors, new positions within the cooperative.

Tom Manter was named director of accounting and control. He is responsible for insurance, leases and banking in addition to accounting and control.

Since joining AG New England in 1988, Manter was controller.

Steve Murphy was named director of finance and administration. He is responsible for human resources, credit and safety and training functions, as well as financial reporting and budgeting.

Murphy has been with the cooperative since 1987. He most recently served as assistant controller.

Both Manter and Murphy report to Richard Ennis, executive vice president and treasurer of AG New England.

Manos Joins Giant's Board

LANDOVER, Md. -- The board of Giant Food here has elected Pete L. Manos a member to fill the vacancy created by the death of Israel Cohen. Manos, 58, is president and chief executive officer of the 164-unit chain. He is one of four directors on the seven-member board who represent 125,000 shares of Class AC common stock that were formerly owned by Cohen, Giant's co-founder. The other three directors represent 125,000 shares of Class AL common stock that are owned by J. Sainsbury (USA) Holdings. Manos, a 35-year Giant employee, was named president of the chain in 1992 and added the title of CEO Nov. 30 following Cohen's death Nov. 22. He is also chairman of the company's food group, which sets policy and strategy for Giant's food operations.
