Bellar Retires at Hazelwood

Bellar has retired from the post of vice chairman at Hazelwood Farms Bakeries, the bakery production arm of Minneapolis-based Supervalu.

Bellar joined the company in 1974 as general manager, and was named vice chairman in 1992. He will continue to work with Hazelwood Farms as a consultant.

Hazelwood is not currently seeking a successor for Bellar as vice chairman, according to a spokesman at Supervalu.

Dorothy Lane Adds Bakery Post

DAYTON, Ohio -- Dorothy Lane Market here has named Scott Fox director of bakery operations, a new position.

Fox reports to the store directors at Dorothy Lane Market's two units -- Ed Florhe at the Oakwood store and Wayne Crisman at the Washington Square store.

Before joining Dorothy Lane, Fox was executive pastry chef at the University of Akron from 1991 until last month. While he was at the university, he also served as a bread consultant to Dorothy Lane and West Point Market, Akron, Ohio.

Prior to his tenure at the University of Akron, Fox owned and operated a retail bakery in Coshocton, Ohio, with his wife, Abby Fox, who is now bakery manager at West Point Market.

Waschull Joins Mars Fudge

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Mars Fudge & Fruit Co. here, a manufacturer of fruit and cream fillings for bakeries, has appointed Herbert Waschull to the new post of director of business development.

Waschull's previous position in the industry was bakery director for Publix Super Markets, the Lakeland, Fla.-based chain with more than 400 units in the Southeast. He retired from Publix last year, after 32 years with the company. In his new post, Waschull will report to William Usdan, president of Mars. In business for more than 50 years, Mars Fudge & Fruit Co. has launched a new marketing plan that targets in-store bakeries.
