Haggen Throws an 80th Birthday Celebration
January 1, 2018
This month, Haggen is celebrating its birthday and 80 great years of serving communities throughout the Pacific Northwest. To mark this momentous anniversary, the company is thanking its customers with two weeks of promotions, including 80-cent deals on signature items, grocery giveaways, tasty food samples and, of course, birthday cake. “Haggen has been fresh and local since 1933, when Ben and Dorothy Haggen opened their first store on Bay Street in Bellingham,” says Clement Stevens, senior vice president of merchandising at Haggen. “Many things have changed over the past 80 years, but what hasn’t changed is our commitment to bringing our customers fresh, high-quality products and supporting the communities we serve. We invite everyone to stop by and enjoy great 80-cent values throughout the store, birthday cake and fun!” Throughout the birthday festivities from October 2 to October 15, the company is promoting a food drive to benefit local food banks. Customers can support the drive several ways. They can purchase $5 pre-packed bags of food to donate, make a cash donation at the register or donate food themselves. Haggen has not only rolled back prices marking key items to 80-cents, it also has designed retro-themed flyers, decorated its stores with birthday-party decor, and outfitted its store employees in 1930’s-era attire. Store promotions include:
Grocery Cart Giveaway: One lucky guest at each store will win a grocery cart full of Haggen brand items. At Washington stores, guests are automatically entered when they use their Haggen card or TOP Connection Card. Shoppers can also enter to win by submitting a paper entry form that can be obtained at the store. The winner from each store will be announced the week of October 21, 2013.
Tasty Food Samples: On Saturday, October 5 and Saturday, October 12, shoppers can enjoy tasty food samples including Haggen Honey Crisp Apple Juice, fresh German style Handmade Bratwurst, Haggen’s Best of the Best Bulk Coffee and freshly baked Haggen Cinnamon Rolls.
Birthday Cake: On Saturday, October 5 and Saturday, October 12, Haggen birthday cake will be served.
“We want to thank the generations of loyal customers for these eight decades in business,” adds Stevens. “We are grateful for their ongoing patronage and support of local farmers and food producers.” Haggen has also produced celebratory videos with two performers from Bellingham’s Upfront Theatre. Happy 80th Birthday Haggen!
