C. James McNutt, Campbell Retiree

t, retired president of Campbell Sales Co. here, died in Clearwater, Fla., June 14. He was 75.

McNutt held various positions at Campbell during his 44-year career there, including director of marketing and vice president of its Canadian operations. In 1979, he was awarded the Food Marketing Institute's William H. Albers Trade Relations Award.

Upon McNutt's retirement in 1985, the C. James McNutt Chair was established in his honor at St. Joseph's University Academy of Food Marketing, Philadelphia. The chair was founded to provide support for research and analysis of fundamental food industry challenges.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, and his son, Russell.

Walter Porcher, Former SN Staffer

NEW YORK -- Walter Porcher, retired copy chief at Supermarket News, died May 30 after a lengthy illness. He was 70.

Porcher spent 39 years with Fairchild Publications, which publishes SN, beginning in December 1956. He had been a reporter for Fairchild's Women's Wear Daily and later with Metalworking News, a former Fairchild publication. At SN he was a copy editor and later became copy chief.

Porcher had been on disability leave since 1992 and retired from Fairchild in February.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann; a son, Daniel, and two grandchildren.

A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for next month.
