Safeway Extends Minority Employment in Canada

REGINA, Saskatchewan — Safeway Canada inked an agreement Friday to partner with the Aboriginal Employment Development division of Saskatchewan province to offer employment opportunities to Canada’s native populations, the First Nations and the Métis. The agreement follows similar partnerships in Alberta and British Columbia. “The economy is booming here, and we’re in dire need of employees,” said Todd Leibel, a spokesman for Safeway Canada. “This should help us find more people.” Safeway operates 15 stores in Saskatchewan, including six in Regina, six in Saskatoon and three in rural areas and employs 1,644 people in the province.
