DAYTON, Ohio -- Super Food Services here said sales and earnings for the year ended Aug. 26 increased for the first time in the past three years.

llion, while sales increased 5.1% to $366 million. Jack Twyman, chairman and chief executive officer, said results for the year were negatively affected by a higher charge due to a greater LIFO inventory level of $59.4 million, compared with $56.8 million in 1994. There was also a charge against earnings from increased inflation of $750,000, compared with a charge of $144,000 in 1994, Twyman said. In Bridgeport, Mich., Super Foods closed a 100,000-square-foot dry grocery warehouse whose 25-year-lease had expired. The company added 165,000 square feet of new space to its 250,000-square-foot dry grocery facility there and 55,000 square feet to its 110,000-square-foot perishables facility there. In Cincinnati, the company leased a 150,000-square-foot distribution center adjacent to its 300,000-square-foot dry grocery facility. It also replaced a 40,000-square-foot perishables warehouse there with a new 110,000-square-foot facility to increase its capacity in frozen foods, meat and dairy.
