Lawrenceville, NJ - The Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions Association announced the winners of the 2010 Roger Milliken Lifetime Achievement Awards last night at the VICS/U Connect Annual Conference at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, TX. The Awards were given to Timothy P. Smucker, Chairman of the Board and Co-CEO of The J.M. Smucker Company, and Danny Wegman, CEO of Wegmans Food Markets. Winners of the Roger Milliken Lifetime Achievement Awards were decided by votes of the VICS Board of Directors.

The VICS Roger Milliken Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the most prestigious awards a businessperson can receive. It honors the leadership and outstanding contributions of an individual who has advanced the entire industry over his or her entire career to date. The award is named after Roger Milliken, a founder of VICS who at 94 remains chairman of his family's textile firm.

"Tim Smucker and Danny Wegman are two family men, from two family companies where the families still run the business. As important as running their family businesses is to these two leaders, they are also passionate supporters of standards for retailers and CPG companies, each having served as chairman of GS1 and provided vision to the organization for many, many years. The VICS Board of Directors congratulates them, their families and the great companies they lead," said Joe Andraski, president and CEO of VICS.

Timothy P. Smucker is Chairman of the Board and Co-CEO of The J.M. Smucker Company and the great-grandson of founder J.M. (Jerome Monroe) Smucker. Before being named Chairman in 1987, he held various marketing and operational positions with the Company, including President and Chief Operating Officer. He is currently the Vice Chairman and Chairman Emeritus of the GS1 Management Board, a global standards organization. The Company remains rooted in the Basic Beliefs of Quality, People, Ethics, Growth and Independence

"It is an honor to be recognized by the VICS Board," said Tim Smucker. "Collaboration is the work of many, not just one or two.  It comes from people within our organizations and a culture that is focused on meeting the needs of our consumers. We remain committed to the mission of VICS and to promoting commerce through industry partnership and collaboration.."

Since Danny Wegman joined Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. in 1964, he has been instrumental in helping the family-owned company become a model of excellence and a leader in the industry. Danny became CEO in 2005 after serving as president for nearly 30 years. Danny has shown a passion for the work of GS1 by leading the Wegmans organization and inspiring others in the industry to work together using standardized business practices. He has served as chairman of both GS1 US and GS1 Global.

"What a tremendous honor to be recognized as a recipient of the Roger Milliken Award by such a distinguished and diverse group of industry leaders," said Wegman.
