University of Connecticut and ShopRite Team Up to Fight Hunger

The University of Connecticut and ShopRite have teamed up to help the hungry this holiday season with a canned food drive before the UConn vs. Cincinnati football game this Saturday, December 1st at 3:30 p.m. During pre-game tailgate hours, fans are asked to bring a canned food item to collection bins located at each entrance to Rentschler Field, and the ShopRite tent at Fanfest between gates A and B. Canned food donations will be accepted from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Fans who donate will be entered into a drawing to receive two season tickets to all remaining UConn Women’s Basketball games, beginning Dec. 3rd when the Huskies take on Maryland. The winner will be announced during the second half of Saturday’s game. ShopRite has a longstanding tradition of helping the hungry through its ShopRite Partners In Caring program. With nearly 50 million Americans, including more than 16 million children, suffering from food insecurity, ShopRite Partners In Caring, a year-round, community based hunger fighting charity, helps to raise awareness and inspire action within local communities. Since its inception in 1999, ShopRite Partners In Caring has donated $29 million to local food banks that support more than 1,700 charities in Providing food assistance throughout the Northeast. All donated food items from this Saturday’s football game will be donated to Foodshare and distributed to those in need in the greater Hartford area this holiday season.
