Alcohol delivery via DoorDash is now available in Maryland, the last-mile delivery service announced on Monday.

The ability to buy liquor online and have it delivered was made possible by a new law in the state that takes effect on July 1, the company said in a press release.

“Whether it’s locally brewed craft beers or bottles of beloved wines, we hope that this new offering can showcase the best that Maryland has to offer,” Erik Ragotte, DoorDash’s general manager of alcohol and convenience, said in a statement. “We remain committed to supporting local merchants and creating new earning opportunities for Dashers while ensuring the highest standards of safety with our best-in-class alcohol delivery protocols.”

The company said demand for alcohol delivery is strong with its customers — nearly nine out of every 10 survey respondents said they had used a delivery service for alcohol within the last year, according to DoorDash’s 2024 Alcohol Ordering Trends report.

DoorDash, which began alcohol delivery in 2021, said in the press release that it has grown the service to become the U.S. category share leader for third-party liquor sales, quoting an Edison Trend’s report.

“Today, consumers can find over 100,000 alcoholic beverages across thousands of stores in 33 states, along with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, on DoorDash,” the company said.

Liquor delivery is a growing market for services like DoorDash and grocers alike.

Walmart, Aldi, Costco, and others have been expanding their liquor delivery services over the last couple of years, and other last-mile delivery companies like Uber Eats and Instacart have been building their rosters of liquor delivery partners.
