H-E-B is upping its online shopping business with a new ecommerce fulfillment center in Houston.

The San Antonio-based Texas grocery chain said the 100,000-square-foot facility will support the grocer’s curbside and home delivery orders throughout metro Houston.

It is the ninth ecommerce fulfillment center the 435-store grocery chain has opened since 2018, and its third in Houston. The grocery said in a press release that it plans to open more ecommerce distribution centers but did not give details.

“These facilities allow for more capacity, greater efficiency, less aisle congestion for the in-store shopper, and better product availability,” the grocery chain said in a press release. “To streamline orders and boost productivity, the facilities use various forms of automation to help partners throughout the order process. With these centers, H-E-B has grown supply chain capacity, which has improved and powered the expansion of its curbside and home delivery services.”

H-E-B is celebrating the opening of the high-tech facility with a $5,000 donation to the robotics program at Energy Institute High School in Houston.

In 2023, H-E-B opened its sixth ecommerce fulfillment center in Plano, Texas, to support its rapid expansion in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. That facility serves new stores that have opened recently in Frisco, McKinney, and Allen, Texas.

The establishment of its ecommerce fulfillment network began in 2018, with the conversion of a Houston-area H-E-B store.
