RICHMOND, Va. -- James River Corp. here said it was near a pact with Computer Sciences Corp., El Segundo, Calif., under which CSC would run its information technology operations.

The change would let the company focus on its core manufacturing and marketing competencies, said Stephen E. Hare, senior vice president of corporate finance and chief financial officer.

James River also said, in a July 28 meeting with analysts, that it would pursue a restructuring program that will cut 4,400 jobs and create new work practices in purchasing, manufacturing, distribution and administration.
