Hy-Vee launches express grocery pickup
Aisles Online adds ‘Get It Faster’ option for two-hour service
May 8, 2020
The Midwestern grocer said yesterday that customers will see a “Get It Faster” option on Aisles Online time slots where the two-hour pickup option is offered. A limited number of two-hour pickup orders will be available for $9.95, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily, at all Hy-Vee stores providing Aisles Online service.
Customers will get the same email and text notifications as they do for regular pickup orders, according to West Des Moines, Iowa-based Hy-Vee, which operates more than 260 stores in eight states. Aisles Online service can be accessed at hy-vee.com/grocery/ or via the Hy-Vee Aisles Online mobile app.
“Hy-Vee’s new two-hour pickup option will give Hy-Vee customers a chance to get the grocery items they need faster than ever before,” Tom Crocker, senior vice president of e-commerce, said in a statement. “This option, along with increasing our number of available Aisles Online time slots, will only continue to add to the exceptional level of customer service we’re able to provide.”
Besides expanding the number of available time slots, Hy-Vee said it has broadened its online product assortment to include more offerings from bakery, cosmetics, beauty, lawn and garden, and other categories. Recently, Hy-Vee reported a “significant increase” in beauty care purchases in stores and online.
Amid the coronavirus outbreak, Hy-Vee has made a number of changes and/or additions as online grocery demand has climbed. The retailer said that it has been opening more Aisles Online time slots daily, and on March 31 it began reserving an Aisles Online pickup hour each day — from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. — for those considered at high risk for the virus, including people age 60 and older, expectant mothers and those with an underlying health condition.
And about a month ago, Hy-Vee launched Mealtime To Go, an on-demand service that allows customers to order hot, prepared foods and take-and-bake meals online and collect them via curbside pickup, without having to enter the store. The service was introduced at more than 200 locations.
