Avocados sales are strong year-round, but peak around celebratory occasions.

Avocados made up 2.9 percent of total produce dollar sales and accounted for 6.2 percent of total fruit sales for the 52 weeks ended April 1. Avocado sales increased 10.1 percent during this time to $1,503 per store, per week. This was due in part to an average retail price increase of 10.9 percent compared to the previous year. Average volume sales per store, per week remained steady compared to the previous year. 

Avocado sales peaked the week leading up to Super Bowl 2017 (the week ended Feb. 5,) with $1,792 per store (the week of the Super Bowl was the third-highest selling week for avocados during this period). The second highest-selling week for avocados was the week of the Fourth of July holiday (the week ended July 7), at $1,706 per store. The lowest-selling week for avocados occurred the week ended Dec. 17, at $1,189 per store. 

Regionally, avocados had the highest contribution to produce sales in the West region at 4.1 percent. The West also had the highest average avocado sales at $2,289 per store, per week, an increase of 7.1 percent from the previous year. Avocados had the second-highest contribution to overall produce sales in the South at 2.7 percent. The South posted avocado sales of $1,202 per store, per week. The East region posted the second highest average avocado sales of $1,495 per store, per week.
