Ahold’s Stop & Shop banner today will announce a partnership with online grocery delivery service Instacart to bolster the retailer’s e-commerce offerings for shoppers in Boston.

The partnership — similar to a deal with Instacart announced last year for select areas served by Stop & Shop’s sister company Giant Food in Washington D.C. — will provide shoppers with a same-day grocery and delivery for customers shopping through Instacart.  Stop & Shop’s online shopping options also include Peapod, the grocery ordering and delivery brand, also owned by Ahold.

A spokesman for the Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop said Instacart would “add to the carousel of convenience for our customers.”

“Our new partnership with Instacart is yet another example of how Stop & Shop is continuously searching for ways to serve our shoppers, helping them to save money, save time and eat well,” Mark McGowan, president of Stop & Shop, said in a statement. “With Instacart, we are adding to our pickup, self-checkout and other options to bring convenience to a new level.”

Instacart, San Francisco, offers delivery of grocery orders in as little as one hour, utilizing personal shoppers at stores and “crowdsourced” delivery.

“Instacart has always been about bringing customers’ favorite stores directly to their doors,” Nilam Ganenthiran, Instacart’s chief business officer, said. “Stop & Shop is loved by its customers and we are excited to bring added convenience to them.”
