BJ’s Wholesale Club is now accepting Electronic Benefits Transfer and Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program (EBT SNAP) payments chainwide, online at BJs.com or via the club’s mobile app, the Westborough, Massachusetts-based club said Friday.

“Over the course of the last few months, we’ve been actively working to expand our online SNAP EBT payment options for our members across all the states we currently do business in,” said Monica Schwartz, EVP and chief digital officer of BJ’s Wholesale Club, in a statement. “We’re excited to announce that SNAP EBT payments are accepted online chainwide, allowing us to offer even more flexibility and convenience to all of our members.”

Members using their SNAP EBT cards to shop online at BJs.com or the BJ’s mobile app, now have the option of  free pickup, shipping, and same-day delivery, BJ’s said in a statement. Members can also split payments at checkout and use both their EBT card and their debit or credit card, BJ’s said.

“EBT payment options afford our members the time and money saving benefits that we know they love and expect from BJ’s,” said Schwartz. “When using our app or shopping online, BJ’s is here to help make shopping easier and more convenient for our members’ busy lifestyles."

Nearly 42 million U.S. residents received SNAP benefits to purchase food last year. SNAP recipients use EBT to pay for food through their accounts. The program distributes more than $100 billion in benefits nationwide.

It wasn’t until 2019, though, that SNAP users could buy groceries online.

Earlier this month, BJ’s Wholesale Club, which has 230 clubs nationwide, opened its fifth Michigan location in Canton. The club is also expected to open a 104,458-square-foot club at 13210 Tegler Drive in Noblesville, Ind.
