Hungryroot, a brand of fresh vegetable-based packaged foods, launched two products at the Whole Foods opening in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on July 26. The store will sell Hungryroot’s Almond Chickpea Cookie Dough and Black Bean Brownie Batter.

Whole Foods is showcasing exciting local vendors and innovative food startups at the store opening, and Hungryroot is one of these companies. In addition to selling the cookie dough and brownie batter on Whole Foods shelves, the company will also provide weekly demos of these products in store. Hungryroot Co-founder and Top Chef Masters alumnus Chef Franklin Becker will be at Whole Foods demoing on August 9th and 11th from 3-7pm.

These Hungryroot products are gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free, cholesterol-free, soy-free, and preservative-free, making them desserts everyone can enjoy. The Almond Chickpea Cookie Dough replaces eggs and butter with chickpeas to create gooey cookie dough that is also packed with nutrients. Other ingredients include almond butter, vegan chocolate chips, sesame tahini, sweet potato and coconut oil. Each serving is just 60 calories, and it can be eaten raw or baked. To bake, simply place the dough on a baking sheet and put it in the oven for 18-24 minutes at 350. The Black Bean Brownie Batter is made with black beans, almond butter, sweet potato, tahini, cocoa powder and maple syrup. Each serving is 50 calories, and it can be eaten raw or baked into delicious brownies in the oven at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

“I created Hungryroot because I’ve seen firsthand the effect that food has on people’s lives,” says Becker. “All of Hungryroot’s products recreate dishes people know and love with unique, nutritious alternatives. We are excited to launch the Almond Chickpea Cookie Dough and Black Bean Brownie Batter at the new Williamsburg Whole Foods as the first of many retail locations.”

The Almond Chickpea Cookie Dough and Black Bean Brownie Batter cost $7.99 a pack. You can buy them at the Williamsburg Whole Foods, opening at 240-242 Bedford Ave on July 26.
