People with higher carotenoid levels are at a reduced risk of breast and other cancers.

Carotenoids are powerful antioxidants found in abundance in certain fruits and vegetables. Testing commonly is performed with Pharmanex’s biophotonic scanner, which quickly scans the hand to measure skin carotenoid levels. The higher the score, the better.

“Learn your risk factors,” Waldbaum’s, an A&P banner, wrote in promotional materials.

Waldbaum’s offered the testing in its Center Moriches, Oceanside and Long Beach, New York, stores.
