Albertsons to Retain 44 Florida Stores After Sale to Publix

BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons LLC here said it will retain 44 stores in Florida following the sale of 49 locations to Publix Super Markets, Lakeland Fla. SN reported the sale on its website yesterday. Albertsons LLC, which in 2006 acquired most of the Albertsons locations that Supervalu did not, has already sold off many of its other stores. In addition to the 44 Florida locations, it will retain 224 other Albertsons stores in the Southwest, Texas and Louisiana. A Publix spokeswoman told SN it plans to hold job fairs in the next two to three weeks for employees of the Albertsons stores in Florida that it has agreed to acquire. The 49 stores Publix is buying average 55,000 square feet.
