Brodbeck Creates Marketing VP Post
Enterprises here, operator of Dick's Supermarkets, named Kenneth L. Robb to the new position of senior vice president of marketing for the eight-unit chain.
Robb had been with Quaker Oats Co., Chicago, since 1987, most recently as director of sales and national account development for beverages. Earlier in his career he worked in sales and marketing positions at General Foods and Procter & Gamble.
In his new post, Robb is responsible for all marketing and advertising activities, including frequent shopper programs, electronic card marketing, special events, direct mail and print advertising. He also oversees private-label and premium store brands. In addition, he handles consumer affairs and acts as the company's spokesman. Robb reports to Robert J. Brodbeck, president and chief executive officer.
Big V Names Executive VP
FLORIDA, N.Y. -- Big V Supermarkets here named James A. Toopes Jr. to the new position of executive vice president of finance, administration and corporate development.
His responsibilities at Big V were held by two executives who have left the company: Gary S. Koppele, senior vice president of administration, treasurer and chief financial officer; and Cornelius J.J. Madera Jr., senior vice president of corporate development and general counsel.
Toopes previously was executive vice president of finance and administration for Bi-Lo, Mauldin, S.C.
In his new position, Toopes reports to Joseph V. Fisher, president and chief executive officer of the 30-store chain.
Ping Retires From Supervalu
MINNEAPOLIS -- Charlie Ping, a 33-year grocery veteran, retired as president of the Southeast division of Supervalu here. The Southeast division is headquartered in Anniston, Ala. No successor will be named.
Ping went to work for Supervalu in 1985 in the retail operations department and was named head of the division one year later. He was honored as wholesaler of the year by the Alabama Grocers Association in 1993.
Prior to his position at Supervalu, Ping was employed by Twin Ports Grocery, Superior, Wis., and GRM Corp. Food Stores and Supermarkets Interstate, both of Milwaukee.
