WAL-MART NAMES SIMON, CURRAN TO NEW POSTS

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores has created two new Wal-Mart Stores U.S. senior management positions. Bill Simon, who had headed up the professional services business, has been named chief operating officer, while Pat Curran is now executive vice president of people. Both will continue reporting directly to Eduardo Castro-Wright, president and chief executive officer, Wal-Mart Stores U.S. All five operations presidents, representing more than 3,400 stores, now report to Simon. He will also be responsible for asset protection and the professional services group, which includes the pharmacy and optical businesses and in-store medical clinics. Curran began her career at Wal-Mart in 1983 as an hourly worker and moved up the ranks. In 2003, she was promoted to senior vice president of Wal-Mart store operations for the mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions.

STAPLETON NAMED SR. VP OF HR AT FOOD LION

SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion has named Robert Stapleton senior vice president of human resources. Stapleton began the transition to his new role early this month in preparation for replacing Darrell Johnson, who will retire at the end of the year. Stapleton had been vice president of retail operations for Food Lion's Western Division. In 1976, he started working at Hannaford, where he served in a number of management positions before becoming vice president of HR for its Southeast Division in 1997. From 2000 to 2003, he was with Lee Hecht Harrison, a consulting and career management services firm. In 2003, he joined Food Lion as vice president of organizational development.

NASH FINCH CO. APPOINTS WILSON AS SR. VP, HR

MINNEAPOLIS — Nash Finch Co. said Denise M. Wilson has joined the company as senior vice president, human resources. Wilson brings 19 years of HR experience to the post. Previously she worked at NRG Energy, a wholesale power generation company, most recently as executive vice president and chief administrative officer. Prior to her seven years with NRG, she was vice president of HR at Metris Cos. and earlier served as director of HR at General Electric, GE Capital IT Solutions.
