HOLLEY NAMED CFO AT WAL-MART
BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Wal-Mart Stores here last week said Tom Schoewe, chief financial officer, would leave that position effective Nov. 30, to be succeeded by Charles Holley. Holley, 54, joined Wal-Mart in 1994 and is currently executive vice president, finance and treasurer. Schoewe will stay on until Jan. 31, 2011, to help with the transition, the company said. Mike Duke, chief executive officer, described Holley as “a talented strategist who also thoroughly understands the details of our business and the financial markets.” Holley also “played a strong role in pioneering the company's international expansion, and has been a key part of our strategic discussions for a number of years.” Schoewe, 57, joined Wal-Mart in 2000. Prior to that, he spent 14 years at Black & Decker. Holley's successor has not yet been identified.
BERGMAN TO RETIRE AT SHOPPERS
LANHAM, Md. — Dick Bergman, president of Shoppers Food & Pharmacy here, has retired, the retailer here said last week. Brian Huff, senior vice president of specialty retail at Shoppers' parent company Supervalu, will assume Bergman's responsibilities until a permanent successor is named, the company added. Bergman was named president of Shoppers in 2006. His previous industry experience includes serving executive roles with Farm Fresh, Scott's Food & Pharmacy, and Rice Epicurean Markets. “I appreciate the years of service Dick has provided Shoppers and wish him the best as he begins this new chapter in his life,” Huff said in a statement. “Dick has achieved many key successes during his tenure.”
FMI TAPS ABEL AS EDUCATION VP
ARLINGTON, Va. — Food Marketing Institute here last week said it has named Carol Abel vice president, education and research. “As provided in the new FMI strategic plan, we are laser-focused on enhancing our industry education programming and expanding opportunities in leadership development for those who work in our member companies,” said FMI President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie G. Sarasin. Abel most recently was senior director of education strategy and compliance officer at the American Pharmacists Association. She previously was vice president of marketing and director of pharmacy continuing education at LearnSomething, a multimedia and training development company.
