Two Yucaipa Veterans Join Wild Oats Board

elected Hal Brice and Greg Mays to the company's board of directors. Both men have worked with companies that were rolled up by investment firm Yucaipa Cos., Los Angeles, and sold to Kroger Co., Cincinnati. Brice is founder of HEILBrice, a retail marketing and advertising firm that has worked Alpha-Beta, Ralphs, Boys/ABC, ABCO Foods, Viva, Weis Markets, Food 4 Less, Fry's, Pathmark and Kroger. Mays is a consultant, and also is a director of Pathmark Stores, Source Interlink Cos. and Simon Worldwide. He most recently was executive vice president of Ralphs, and also has been president and chief executive officer of Almacs' Supermarkets. Yucaipa has a 15% interest in Wild Oats, and also an interest in Pathmark. Brice and Mays will succeed former board members Mark Retzloff and David Chamberlain, who did not stand for re-election in May. Wild Oats is still searching for a chairman of the board to succeed Robert Miller, who also did not stand for re-election.

Ahold Nominates de Swaan to Supervisory Board

AMSTERDAM - Ahold's supervisory board has nominated Tom de Swaan for appointment as one of its members. De Swaan is the former chief financial officer of ABN AMRO Bank N.V. His nomination for appointment will be on the agenda of the next general meeting of Ahold shareholders. De Swaan, 60, will fill the vacancy to be left by Jan Hommen, who will not be standing for re-election at the end of his term.

Fred Meyer Names Gust, Malone to VP Posts

PORTLAND, Ore. - Fred Meyer Stores has named Lynn Gust executive vice president of corporate merchandising and advertising, and Molly Malone senior vice president and director of the general group. Gust, a 36-year veteran of the company who previously held the positions of senior vice president of the food group and senior vice president of operations, is now responsible for the overall merchandising and advertising for Fred Meyer. Malone, a five-year Fred Meyer veteran who most recently was group vice president of the apparel division, is now responsible for all divisions of Fred Meyer excluding food, health and beauty and pharmacy.
